Configure Codex Desktop

This page explains how to use Codex Desktop with Cubicspaces.

Compatibility

Codex Desktop usually reads local Codex configuration. If your version supports custom model providers, reuse the Codex CLI setup. If it only supports official account login, use Codex CLI instead.

Setup

  1. Configure ~/.codex/config.toml by following Codex CLI setup.
  2. Set OPENAI_API_KEY as a system environment variable.
  3. Fully quit Codex Desktop.
  4. Reopen Codex Desktop and open a local project.

Verify the Setup

Send a simple task in Codex Desktop:

text
Read the current project structure and summarize the main directories.

If Codex returns a project summary, the Desktop app is using the Cubicspaces configuration.

Troubleshooting

It still uses the official account

Check whether your current version supports custom providers from local ~/.codex/config.toml. If not, use Codex CLI.
